Supplies Needed:
Step 1

Make a rectangle for your belt pattern
The length of the rectangle for your belt should be your waist measurement plus about an inch on each side to fold over the buckle.
The width of your belt will be determined by your buckle. Measure the inside of your buckle (in my case it’s, 2 inches). Double that number so you can fold it over and have a front and back of the belt (now it’s 4 inches). Then don’t forget to add seam allowance (I added 1/2 inch on both sides). So the final width of the belt is 5 inches.
If your belt is 1.5 inches. That means you want to double it to 3 inches, then add seam allowance. If you use 1/2 inch seams, this will make your final belt width 4 inches.
Step 2

Cut out your belt fabric
I like using scrap fabric whenever possible, so I used my belt pattern that I made in step one to cut out this cool boucle fabric that I had leftover from a shawl I made a while ago.
Step 3

cut out interfacing
I also recommend using interfacing. This may not be necessary if you are using a highly structured fabric, but usually a mid-weight interfacing will make the final belt look more refined when it’s finished.
Step 4

Apply interfacing to your belt
Follow the instructions from your interfacing to apply it to the reverse side of your fabric belt.
Step 5

Fold your belt in half and sew
Fold the belt in half lengthwise and sew all the way down the length.
Step 6

press your seam to the back of the belt
Press the seam open to the back. This will prevent the seam from showing at all on the front, giving your belt a smooth front face.
Step 7

Turn your belt right side out
Step 8

Press your belt flat
After turning, press the belt flat, making sure that the seam stays on the back of the belt.
Step 9

Attach your belt to your buckle
Fold the belt around either side of the buckle and pin in place. Before sewing, try the belt on and adjust it to fit your waist perfectly. Then hand sew the belt in place.
Finished!
