Tutorial: Sew a Simple Beanie with Knit Fabric
Learn how to make a simple beanie with this easy tutorial. You can wear this hat with the bottom folded up or flat, whichever you prefer. This tutorial requires a stretch knit fabric (I recommend using a rib knit fabric) and is great for fall or winter fashion. Supplies Needed:
(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)
Step 1
fold one third and sew the upper dart
With right sides together, fold the hat along one third and sew the upper dart.
Step 2
Fold and sew the other dart
Repeat the previous step with the dart on the other side of the hat.
Step 3
repeat for the back of the hat
Step 4
Sew the front and back of the hat together
With right sides together, sew the front and back of the hat.
Step 5
Fold up the base of the hat
Fold up 3 inches on the inside at the base of the hat and sew. Then turn the hat to the right side. You can wear it as is, or fold up the bottom edge like a cuff.
