Tutorial: How to Make a Dog Ear Fleece Hat
This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to make a floppy dog ear hat. I’ll show you how to put the dog ears together so that they stand up on the hat and flop over. What’s even better is that you can make this hat using remnants of fabric that you have leftover from other projects. Just download the pattern using the link below and follow along with the step-by-step instructions.
Supplies Needed:

(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)

Step 1

apply interfacing to the ears
Apply interfacing to the inner section of all of the ears, as indicated by the dotted line.
Step 2

sew the ears together
With right sides together, sew the ears. Leave the inner side unsewn. Then trim the seam and turn the ears to the right side.

Step 3

sew the hat pieces in sets of two
With right side together, sew two sets of hat pieces on one side.

Step 4

baste the ears to one of the hat sides
With the top of the ear facing the center, baste the dog ears to one of the fleece hat pieces.
Step 5

sew the two sides of the hat together
With right sides together, sandwich the dog ears and sew along the top seam. Then trim the seam and turn the hat to the right side.

Step 6

fold the band in half and sew
with right sides together, fold the band in half and sew to create a loop.

Step 7

fold the band in half
With wrong sides together, fold the band in half lengthwise

Step 8

sew the band to the hat
Lining up raw edges, sew the band around the hat. Then trim the seam and press the band down.
