Tutorial: How to Make a Pleated Drawstring Dice Bag
This tutorial will walk you through how to create a pleated drawstring bag that you can make using remnants from two contrasting fabrics. This is great to use as a small dice bag for your D&D sessions or just as a cute little drawstring bag for everyday items. I’ve also included a free printable pattern that you can use to follow along with the step-by-step tutorial
Supplies Needed:

Pattern includes:
(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)

Step 1

Line up the strips of fabric alternating between colors and sew the long sides together

Step 2

pleat by folding the wider pieces in half to line up the shorter pieces – Baste one side
This will hide the contrast color underneath the pleats. press the pleats for crisp edges. Then baste one long edge of the pleats together

Step 3

on the un-basted side, fold the each fabric flap over to reveal the contrast color, then baste in place

Step 4

fold the bag in half (with right sides together) and sew down the side to make a loop

Step 5

Gather one open side of the bag and sew across all layers
This will create the base of your drawstring bag. After sewing, trim the seam to reduce bulk.

Step 6

fold the lining in half and sew

Step 7

fold one end together and sew across all layers
Trim the ends after sewing to reduce bulk.

Step 8

place lining inside bag (wrong sides together) and baste the upper edge

Step 9

make a Narrow hem on both sides of the drawstring casing pieces
Step 10

sew both the drawstring casing pieces to the upper edge of the bag
Sew through all layers, then press the casing up, away from the bag.

Step 11

fold casing over on the inside and stitch
You can ditch stitch or edge stitch, depending on what you are more comfortable with.

Step 12

insert 2 pieces of string through the casing
You need each piece of string to go all the way around, through both casings. One string you’ll insert through the left side, thread it all the way around so it comes back out the left. The other will start on the right side and go all the way around so it comes back out the right.

Finished!
