Tutorial: How to Make a Stretch Headband with Fabric Flowers
Learn how to make a stretch knit headband and flower with this quick tutorial. You can make the headband from a bit of leftover jersey or stretch knit fabric and make the flower from whatever bright colored knit scraps you have available. Download the pattern below for the sizing and follow along with the step-by-step instructions.
Supplies Needed:
all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance
Step 1


fold the headband in half and sew along the length
Be sure to use a zigzag or stretch stitch for this part so that the final headband will still be stretchable

Step 2

turn the headband to the right side
Press the seam flat.
Step 3


place one end of the headband inside of the other and sew
Fold the end of one side in like a hem, and place the other side inside this one to create a tube. Topstitch through all layers.

Step 4

Pinch the headband to gather it and hand sew it in place

Step 5

fold 5 of your circles in half and sew along the folded edge
Fold the circles in half an line them up overlapping. Then sew a long basting stitch along the folded edge

Step 6

Gather the base of the flower and tie it in a circle
Pull the thread to gather the flower petals and tie them in a circle.

Step 7

repeat step 5 with the other 3 circles
Overlap the three semi circles and sew along the folded edge.
Step 8

connect the circle and gather the base of the flower
Pull the thread and connect the petals as in step 6 to create another tiny flower.

Step 9

layer the little flower and big flower on the headband and hand sew them all together
