Supplies Needed:
Step 1
Make your belt pattern
This belt pattern is really just a rectangle with slightly rounded edges, so you can make it on your own if you want to. But I’ve also digitized the pattern I used if you want to print it out and use it. The long, narrow rectangle can be replaced with ribbon if you prefer.
Step 2
cut out your fabric pieces and interfacing
Cut 4 fabric pieces (2 front and 2 lining), and two ribbon pieces. You can use the same fabric for front and lining if you want. I like to use scraps of fabric for these small projects, so I didn’t quite have enough left on a single color.
Also cut the interfacing by folding back the seam allowance and cutting 2 pieces on the fold.
Step 3
sew the center back seam
Sew both the front and lining together at the center back seam. Press the seam open.
Step 4
Sew the ribbons
Double fold the ribbon pieces so the raw edges are on the inside (the way you fold bias tape). Then sew down the length of the ribbon pieces. If you’re using actual ribbon, you can skip this step.
Step 5
apply the interfacing
Fuse the interfacing pieces to the back of both fabric pieces.
Step 6
baste the ribbons to both sides of the belt
Baste the two ribbons onto both ends of the belt.
Step 7
sandwich the ribbons between the two belt layers
Place the lining on top of the belt, right sides together. Make sure the ribbons are in-between the layers and don’t get stuck in the seams
Step 8
sew the two belt layers together
Sew the two layers together leaving a small gap in the center back to turn the belt.
Step 9
clip curves and turn right side out
Clip and trim the curves before turning the belt right side out. The ribbons should be attached at either end.
Step 10
press the belt and sew the gap
Carefully press the belt flat and then sew up the gap that’s left at center back.
Finished!
