Tutorial: How to Make a No-Sew Stretch Knit Clip on Belt
I’ve never made a belt without sewing before, but I’m always up to a challenge. This NO-SEW clip-on knit belt ended up being super easy, and only required some creative knot-work. This is a great craft for kids, or anyone looking for an easy project to use some leftover knit fabric scraps.

Supplies Needed:

Step 1

Cut strips of fabric
Cut strips of fabric that are approximately the same width. These don’t need to be any specific length and you can cut as many as you like.

Step 2

curl or roll the sides of one of the strips and slide it onto the clasp
Curl the sides of the fabric to keep the wrong side from showing. Then, slip it through one side of the clasp buckle.

Step 3

Knot the fabric onto the clasp
Tie a knot to secure the fabric to the clasp. Repeat for the second clasp.

Step 4

take a second fabric strip and lay it over the first
Here’s where you start to add strips of fabric to lengthen the belt bit by bit until it fits all the way around. We are basically making an “impossible knot” that is used in knitting to connect two strands of yarn.
Start by crossing the new strand of fabric over top of one of the ones attached to the clasp.
Step 5

Loop it around and through the loop it created
Then loop that that new strand under, over the top, and then loop it through to create a knot.

Step 6

Pull the knot tight
Pull the knot as tight as you can so that it will not come loose.
Step 7

Repeat to create a second knot with the other fabric strand
Now you want to repeat that same thing a second time. But this time, you want to make the loop with a that first strand of fabric that you connected to the clasp. When you’re finished you should have two knots side by side.

Step 8

Pull on the fabric to bring the two knots together
To make the impossible knot, pull the two fabric strands to make the knots move toward each other. Pull as tight as you can so that the knot cannot come loose.
Step 9

clip off the excess fabric tails
Now clip the tails off of the knots for a cleaner finish. Because of the way you created the knot, it cannot come undone no matter how hard you pull.
Step 10

Repeat as many times as you want until the belt fits
Now, all you need to do is repeat the same knot as many times as you want to connect the two sides of your clasp.
Finished!
