Tutorial: Cute Ear Warmer with a Big Bow
This is a variation of my basic ear warmer pattern that adds a cute bow to make it a little more fashionable. It’s an extremely simple project that can be made with just 1/4 remnants of fleece fabric that you have leftover from other projects. Download the free pattern below and follow along with the step-by-step instructions.
Supplies Needed:

(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)

Step 1

Sew the ear warmer to the lining
With right sides together, sew the ear warmer to the lining on the top and bottom.
If you want to make your life easier in step 3, turn the seam allowance of the ear warmer and lining in on one side (see below) before sewing.

Step 2

turn the ear warmer to the right side
Turn the ear warmer to the right side and press the seam. It’s a good idea to use a pressing cloth whenever you use an iron with fleece because the heat can melt the fuzzy fibers.
Step 3

insert one side inside the other and topstitch
Fold the ear warmer into a loop and insert one end inside of the other. Then topstitch through all the layers.
This is easier if you already sewed the seam allowance inside in step one. But if you forgot, you can turn over the edge of one side while inserting the other to hide the raw edges of the fabric.

Step 4

fold the bow in half and sew around the perimeter
Fold the bow in half with right sides together and sew it. Be sure to leave a gap in the stitching so that you can turn it to the right side.

Step 5

turn the bow to the right side
Trim the seam and corners to reduce bulk, then turn the bow to the right side.
Step 6

gather the center of the bow and wrap thread around it
Pinch the center of the bow with your fingers to gather it. Then take a piece of thread or string and wrap it around the center to secure the shape of the bow.

Step 7

fold the Tab in half and sew
Fold the wrap in half and sew down the length. Then trim the seam to reduce bulk and turn it to the right side.

Step 8

wrap the tab around the ear warmer and bow
Wrap the little tab around the ear warmer and bow and hand sew it closed in the back.

Finished!
