Tutorial: The Simplest Scrunchie
Scrunchies are a great project for using up leftover remnants of fabric. All you need is a long strip of fabric and a little bit of elastic, and you can easily create these useful hair accessories. They are also great for adding to goody bags for kids’ birthdays. Download the free pattern below and follow along with the simple step-by-step tutorial.

Supplies Needed:

(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)

Step 1

fold the scrunchie in half lengthwise and sew
With right sides together, sew the scrunchie in half lengthwise. Leave a small gap at both ends (see below)

Step 2

fold the scrunchie in half inside of itself and sew the ends together
Pull the scrunchie inside of itself so you have right-sides together. Sew the ends together, seams should be matching. You should still have that little gap that you left open earlier.

Step 3

turn the scrunchie to the right side and insert elastic
Turn the scrunchie right-side-out through the little gap you left. Then insert the elastic through the scrunchie and sew it into a loop. Then hand sew the hole in the scrunchie headband.

Finished!
