Tutorial: Cute Ruffle Flower Throw Pillow
Learn how to make a cute flower throw pillow that uses a ruffle to mimic the petals. This is the simplest flower pillow that I’ve made since you don’t have to worry about sewing together the individual petals with this design. Download the free pattern below and use it to follow along with my step-by-step instructions. You’ll have a cute new decorative floral pillow in no time.
Supplies Needed:

(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)

Step 1

sew the two ends of the ruffle together into a loop
Fold the ruffle in half with right sides together and sew the ends together to make a loop.

Step 2

fold the ruffle in half lengthwise
Step 3

add gathering stitches to the bottom of the ruffle
Use the longest stitch on your machine to add two lines of gathering stitches through both layers on the raw edges of the ruffle. You can also do a hand basting stitch if you prefer.
Step 4

pull the stitches to gather the ruffle
Gather the ruffle until it will fit around the perimeter of the center circle.

Step 5

baste the ruffle to the edge of the pillow circle
With right sides together, baste the ruffle to the circle around the edge. Be sure the bulk of the ruffle is on the inside of the circle.
Step 6

add the second side of the pillow on top and sew through all layers
With right sides together, sandwich the ruffle with the second center circle. Then sew around the perimeter through all layers. Leave a small gap for turning to the right side.

Step 7

turn the pillow to the right side
Before turning the pillow, it’s a good idea to trim the seam to reduce bulk and make it look smoother. Then turn the pillow to the right side.

Step 8

stuff the pillow and sew up the gap
You can use whatever you want to stuff your pillow. I like to use leftover fabric scraps that are too small to use for anything else as my pillow stuffing, but this does make the final pillow a little more lumpy than it otherwise would be. So, if you don’t like that, you can always use polyfill or another type of pillow stuffing material.
Once you’re finished stuffing, be sure to sew up the gap by hand sewing.
Finished!
