Tutorial: How to Make a Fringe on a Scarf
This tutorial will quickly show you how to make a scarf with fringed ends. This will not work with fleece fabric, but flannel or other types of woven fabrics will work. Basically, if it’s a fabric that frays, this technique will work.
Start by cutting a long length of the fabric that is approximately 60″x10″. You can change the length or width according to your own preferences, it just needs to be generally scarf-shaped.

Supplies Needed:
Step 1

Pick at the edges of the scarf until you pull of the individual yarns
For some materials that are more loosely woven this will be easy. For others, you may want the help of a sharp tool. I used a seam ripper to help me pick off the individual threads.

Step 2

continue pulling threads until the fringe is as long as you want
I will warn you, this is a tedious process. If you want to have a long fringe, I recommend putting on a movie to keep yourself entertained while you pick away at the ends.
Step 3

hem the long edges
Once you’re happy with the fringe, double turn hem the long edges so they will not fray.

Finished!
