Tutorial: Upcycled Keychain Holder With a Jeans Waistband
Upcycle the waistband from an old pair of jeans to create a creative new keychain holder to give your keys a personal touch. This is a super simple tutorial that will walk you through detaching the waistband and making your new keychain into a custom length.
Supplies Needed:
Step 1

remove the waistband from an old pair of jeans
Using a seam ripper, carefully cut the stitches to remove the waistband from a pair of jeans. The waistband will be open along the bottom edge.

Step 2

decide how long you want your keychain holder to be.
I wanted to be able to easy grab the keys around my wrist. Using my wrist as a guide, I cut the waistband to my desired length. Now you’ll have two pieces of the waistband with the button in the middle.

Step 3

sew the two pieces of the together
Open the waistband pieces and sew them together along the side that doesn’t have the button. Now your waistband is connected again, it’s just shorter.

Step 4

sew the waistband keychain shut
Topstitch through all layers along the open edge. Try to match your stitches with the stitchlines that already exist along the bottom of the waistband.
Step 5

add your keychain and sew it in place
thread the waistband around your keychain, fold it in half and sew.
Finished!
