Tutorial: How to Make a Flower Pillow with 6 Petals
This tutorial will teach you how to make a flower-shaped pillow. It might look complicated, but this is actually a fairly simple project that’s great even for beginners. I had a half yard of quilting cotton leftover and it was just the right amount for the pillow. However, if you want to make the petals different colors and patterns, you can easily use up smaller scraps of fabric.
Supplies Needed:

Step 1

Sew the petals together in groups of three
For the front and back of the flower, sew the petals together in groups of 3 (so you’ll have 4 groups of 3 petals). Press the seams and trim off the inner point that sticks out after the trio of petals are sewn together.

Step 2

sew the groups of three together
Sew two groups of petals together along the long straight edge for the front of the pillow, and then repeat for the back. Press the seam open.

Step 3

Sew the front and back of the pillow together
Line up the petals for the front and back and sew them together around the perimeter. Leave a gap in one of the petals.

Step 4

Clip the corners and curves
Clip very close to the stitching on all corners, and clip all the curves. Then trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch.

Step 5

Turn the pillow right-side out
Use a long tool to help get all the edges turned out. You can also press the pillow seam flat at this point.
Step 6

stuff the pillow
You can use whatever you want to stuff your pillow. I like to use leftover fabric scraps that are too small to use for anything else as my pillow stuffing, but this does make the final pillow a little more lumpy than it otherwise would be. So, if you don’t like that, you can always use poly-fill or another type of pillow stuffing material.

Step 7

sew the gap
You can hand sew this closed if you want a seamless finish, or machine sew it closed with matching thread for a quicker option. It just depends how perfect you want your final pillow to look.
Step 8

Sew through the center of the pillow
With a long needle, knot a double strand of thread in the center on one side of the pillow. Bring the needle through the center and pull it tight, knotting the needle on this side too. Repeat the process at least 3-4 times (thread through the center, then tie a knot), or until you are satisfied with the indentation in the center of the pillow.

Step 9

Sew on a button
I chose to sew a button onto only the front of the pillow, but feel free to add a cute button to both sides if you want to.
Finished!
