Tutorial: How to Make a Simple Scarf with Pockets (or mittens)
I like adding pockets to almost everything, and scarves are no exception. This tutorial will walk you through how to create an easy scarf with pockets on the end. I made these pockets big enough to hold my phone and wallet. I also use the pockets as makeshift mittens sometimes. All you need is about a 1/2 yard remnant of fleece fabric to get started.
Supplies Needed:

Step 1

fold the pocket in half and topstitch along the fold
Topstitch about 1/4 inch down from the fold edge. This will help keep the pocket top nice and crisp over time.

Step 2

baste the pockets to the end of the scarf
line up the pockets with the ends of one of the scarf pieces. Baste them in place along the outer edge.

Step 3

sew the other side of the scarf
With right sides together, sandwich the pockets with the other scarf piece. Then sew along the perimeter. Leave a small gap toward the center of the scarf so you can turn it to the right side.

Step 4

Clip the curves
For a cleaner finish, clip the curves at both ends of the scarf.
Step 5

Turn the scarf right-side out
Turn the scarf right-side-out through the little gap you left. Then press the seams.
Note: with fleece, you will probably need to use a pressing cloth (or some kind of cotton fabric) between the iron. This will prevent you from accidentally melting the fleece fibers.

Step 6

Sew up the gap
Stitch the gap closed by hand sewing it.

Finished!
