Tutorial: Scrap Fabric Apron
This tutorial will walk you through how to make a fun and colorful apron using leftover scraps of fabric. We’ll sew the scraps together into a collage and then cut out and construct the apron. Print out the free pattern below and follow along with the step-by-step instructions.

Supplies Needed:
(all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance)
Note: I am a short and small person, so you may want to increase the length of the pieces if you’re an average sized adult

Step 1

make your fabric collage
Arrange your fabric scraps however you want. You just need to make sure the resulting collage of scraps is big enough for your pattern pieces. When you’re happy with how they look, sew your fabric collage together.

Step 2

cut out your pattern pieces
Place your pattern pieces on top of your collage and cut them out like you would for any other pattern.

Step 3

hem the sides of the bib and skirt
hem the top and sides of the bib and skirt pieces with a narrow hem.

Step 4

sew the waistband to the skirt
Sandwich the top of the skirt with the two waistband pieces. Then sew almost all the way around the two waistband pieces and the top of the skirt, stopping where the skirt gets in the way of the waistband.
Step 5

Turnt he waistband to the right side.
turn the waistband to the right side through the center and press it away from the skirt. Then press the seam allowance toward the inside of the waistband.

Step 6

insert the bib into the waistband
Slide the bib into the top of the waistband, centering it on the skirt. Then top stitch it in place through the waistband.

Step 7

baste the seam allowance on the sides of the pocket
Step 8

hem the upper edge of the pocket

Step 9

sew the pocket to the apron
Edgestitch the pocket to the skirt. You can also make a line of stitches down the center of the pocket to turn it into two pockets.
Step 10

sew ribbon for the neck strap
Measure a length of ribbon that fits around your head and neck, then sew it to both sides of the bib.
Finished!
