Tutorial: Easy Carrot Drawstring Pouch
Learn how to make a carrot drawstring pouch that you can use as a goody bag for Easter events and spring decor. You can make this using leftover scraps and remnants of fabric (as long as you have some orange and green!). Download the free pattern below and follow along with the step-by-step tutorial.
Supplies Needed:

all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance

Step 1

sew the Carrot pouch front and back together
With right sides together, sew the two carrot pouch pieces together around the perimeter, leaving the top open. It’s best to finish the seam to make the end pouch more durable and keep it from fraying.

Step 2

Turn the pouch to the right side
Step 3

sew two sets of carrot tops together
Sew the carrot tops together along the sides. Leave the top open, and the bottom tab (the bottom will become the casing for the drawstring later).

Step 4

Clip the corners to the stitching
Step 5

Turn the fabric on the casing sections in and stitch
You are turning the seam allowance in at this section because you want there to be a hole for the drawstring casing here later.

Step 6

stitch the top edge of the carrot tops together
Press it to the right side to make sure it’s nice and neat. You may want to top stitch or understitch the seam to give it a nicer finish.

Step 7

Sew one side of the carrot tops to the pouch
Sew one flap of the top section around the top of the carrot pouch. The press the seam up and the carrot greens away from the pouch.

Step 8

fold the inner side of the carrot top and stitch along the edge
Fold over the seam allowance on the inner side to cover the raw edges of the fabric. You can ditch stitch or edge stitch, depending on what you are more comfortable with (if you’ve ever sewn a waistband, this is exactly the same process).
I realized this step might be a bit tricky if you’re a beginner since you’re working with such a narrow top. The trick is to sew with the machine needle on the inside of the hole, rather than around the outside (with a little bit of patience you’ll be able to get it!)
Step 9

Make another line of stitching half an inch up from the seam
Stitch around the carrot top again 1/2 inch up from the seamline to create the drawstring casing.
Step 10

insert 2 pieces of string through the casing
You need each piece of string to go all the way around, through both casings. One string you’ll insert through the left side, thread it all the way around so it comes back out the left. The other will start on the right side and go all the way around so it comes back out the right.
Finished!
