Supplies Needed:

all of my patterns include 1/2″ seam allowance

Step 1

apply interfacing to the bag fabric
You can use sew in or fusible interfacing, whichever you prefer.
Step 2

Fold the square in half and sew the darts on both corners
If you don’t want to trace it from the pattern, measure 2.5 inches from each corner and draw a line. Then sew along these lines.

Step 3

Repeat step 2 with the fabric folded the other way
Sew the darts on the other two corners.
Step 4

Flatten the bottom of the fabric to create a box shape
It’s a good idea to press the darts at the sides at this point to give them a crisper edge.
Step 5

Repeat steps 2-4 with the lining

Step 6

Sew the basket and lining together
Place the basket inside the lining and sew all the way around the perimeter. Leave a gap in on of the flaps so that you can turn it to the right side.

Step 7

Clip the points and corners
To get crisp edges, you’ll want to clip all the inner and outer corners right up to the stitching, without actually cutting the stitches.

Step 8

turn the bag to the right side
Use a long pointy tool to poke out all the corners.

Step 9

Top stitch around the edges
Top stitch all the way around the edge to make it nice and neat. This will also sew up the gap in one of the flaps.
Step 10

apply interfacing to the handle
Step 11

sew the handle to the lining
With right sides together, sew the handle to the lining.
Step 12

turn handle to right side
Step 13

press and top stitch the handle
With matching fabric, top stitch the handle to make it nice and neat.
Step 14

sew or glue the handle to the corners of the basket
I prefer to hand sew the handle in place, but you can also secure it with hot glue or fabric glue if you prefer

Finished!
