Tutorial: Jeans Pocket Coin Purse
Learn how to make a simple coin purse by using the pockets from an old pair of jeans. This is a simple tutorial that you can easily complete in less than an hour and is a great way to upcycle a pair of jeans that’s too worn out to wear anymore.
Note: When sewing through layers of denim, I generally recommend using a jeans or heavy weight needle with your sewing machine to make it sure the needle won’t break while trying to sew through the thick layers.

Supplies Needed:
Step 1

use a seam ripper to carefully remove the pockets from an old pair of jeans

Step 2

topstitch the pockets to either side of the zipper
Sewing through all layers, topstitch the pockets to a small zipper. Sew to the edges of the zipper teeth, but leave the tails of the zipper free.
You may be able to use the zipper from the same pair of jeans you got your pockets from. Make sure the the zipper is approximately the right length, and if it’s not, you’ll need a zipper that measures the same length as the top edge of the pockets.

Step 3

Fold over the zipper tails
On the reverse side of the pockets, fold over the zipper tails and sew them inside the seam allowance. You may want to hand stitch so that your thread won’t be visible on the front of the pockets.
Step 4

Line up pockets and topstitch through all layers
Fold the pockets along the zipper to line them up with wrong sides together. Then topstitch through all the layers. You can match your topstitching with the stitching lines that are visible from when the pockets were sewn to your jeans.
Finished!
