Tutorial: Easy Lanyard Using a Pair of Old Jeans
In this quick and easy tutorial, I’ll show you how to upcycle the seam of an old pair of jeans into a new lanyard you can use as a keychain. The seam of jeans tends to be the most durable part, so even when your pants are all worn out with holes, you can still use the inseam for this tutorial.
Note: when sewing with denim, I recommend using a heavy weight or denim needle with your sewing machine. A standard needle may snap if you try to sew through too many layers of denim.

Supplies Needed:
Step 1

roughly cut out the double stitches seam of a pair of jeans
Usually, this is the inseam of the pants. You want to make sure it’s the seam with two lines of stitches and the fabric folded over on the back.

Step 2

carefully trim the fabric around the seam
Clip close to the stitches, using the folded fabric as a guide. Then cut the lanyard to whatever length you want.

Step 3

add a hook clasp
Thread a clasp onto the the seam.

Step 4

sew the ends of the seam into a loop
Stack the ends of the seam and sew them together to close the loop of the lanyard.

Step 5

sew the clasp in place
Fold the fabric around the clasp and sew it to keep the clasp in place on the lanyard.
Finished!
